As an undergraduate member of HiPSEC working under the tutelage of Dr. Ravhi Kumar and Dr. Andrew Cornelius I’ve had the incredible opportunity to participate in experiments with the High-Pressure Collaborative Access Team (HPCAT) at the Advanced Photon Source (APS) located at Argonne National Lab. My experience at the APS synchrotron has included work with the Paris-Edinburgh (PE) cell as well as high pressure x-ray diffraction and x-ray absorption measurements. Additionally, my time as an undergraduate member of HiPSEC has granted me more than two years experience in sample synthesis and characterization of a variety of thermoelectric materials, superconducting compounds, and heavy-fermion systems. Most recently, I have been investigating the properties of RMnO3 type materials (R – rare earth elements) including appropriate synthesis techniques and structural analysis.
