HiPSEC has excellent experimental research opportunities. As collaborative access team (CAT) members of HPCAT (see below), HiPSEC members have privileged access to one of the most advanced high pressure laboratories in the world. Furthermore, the Center has several in-house laboratories at the UNLV campus.

UNLV campus labs
Rock Deformation Laboratory
Operated by Pamela Burnley, this lab offers the capability of deforming materials under controlled pressures (up to 1.8 GPa), temperatures (up to 1000 ºC) and strain rates (10-7/sec to 10-3/sec). The lab also has equipment for sample preparation for petrographic work as well as Electron Backscatter Diffraction (EBSD). EBSD can be conducted in the Geoscience Department’s EMiL Lab.
